World weather.

Saturday 8th October, Madrid, Spain

Something weird happened in Madrid a few days ago, and I haven't had a chance to write about it yet.

That's right, Madrid (and some other places!) witnessed a rare annular eclipse of the sun 'Annular' doesn't mean it happens every year, and it doesn't have anything to do with your bottom; it's some sort of meteorological term that if I could be bothered, I would find the definition of.

I must admit that I didn't race to the rooftop when I noticed the sky start to darken in the middle of the morning. I just knew that I wouldn't be able to resist staring at the sun, in spite of how many times my mother warned me that it would send me blind. So instead I stood at my window and watched as the street darkened in front of my eyes. Quite eerie, actually.

Since I didn't get any eclipse photos myself, I've put together a collection of photos that I found just lying around on the internet. Click on the pic to visit its source page, and see more photos. Or don't.

This guy is an eclipse freak! The Madrid eclipse was the 22nd ecplise he has photographed.

But we've all seen photos of eclipses before. What impressed me most about this ecplise (and made me regret not going outside to view it) were the crazy shadows that the sun cast when it was largely covered by the moon....
